1. Drink Plenty Of Water

Massaging your muscles can get them to release toxins. Make sure to stay hydrated to flush these substances out of your system faster. You may be thirsty anyway after the massage. Whether you are or not, try to drink at least a few glasses of water within the next few hours after the massage.

Massage therapists and other health care professionals often recommend drinking water after a massage. There are a variety of reasons besides releasing toxins. In fact, drinking water in general is a good idea, as the body benefits from proper hydration. We can be dehydrated without even knowing it. The kidneys and other organs process the various toxic substances that move through the human body on a regular basis. Drinking water before a massage is also highly recommended, as it will make it easier for the massage therapist to perform deep work. By hydrating the muscles they are easier to manipulate.

2. Give Yourself Some Time

You may not always feel better right away. Extremely tight muscles before a massage can make you feel even a little more sore right after getting one. The toxins that are released may even make you feel a little sick. Sometimes, a few treatments may be needed for you to feel complete relief. Talk to your therapist about anything you experience and he or she can suggest other things, such as stretching exercises, to make the recovery process faster and easier.

3. Do Something Relaxing After Your Massage

Think about your work or social responsibilities before you schedule your massage. If possible, it is best to schedule it when you don't have to return to work immediately after. Also, don't exercise after your massage. Try to take it easy. You may even feel like a nap or just relaxing and resting right after. That's all right! You are doing something to improve your overall health.

4. Don't Quit Just Because You Feel Better

Prevention is always better than treatment. A maintenance plan can keep you feeling good. People who get regular massages tend to report better results than those who just go in when they absolutely have to. Treat it as you would any other activity that can help your sense of wellbeing.

Don't think of regular massages as a pampering luxury. They are not any more of a luxury than regular checkups at the doctor or taking care of your teeth. Make them a part of your new healthier lifestyle!
